Appeal for Support | West Midlands Disabled Swimming Squad
About the Squad
The West Midland Disability Swimming Squad enables elite disabled swimmers to train and compete together. The squad competes successfully at National Championships, winning many medals and holding many British records. Some members have competed at World Championship and Paralympic level and some are World Record holders. Three members of the squad competed in the Beijing Paralympics in 2008. Four swimmers qualified for the European Championships in Reykjavik in October 2009 and three competed in the World Championships in December 2009. There are hopes that more will represent the region in London 2012.
The squad provides an opportunity, also, for younger swimmers to compete at National events. Often, these swimmers are the only Disabled swimmers in their club and the squad affords them the opportunity to train with other Disability swimmers. There is great hope that these young swimmers will progress to represent the region in future World Championships and Paralympics.

The squad relies solely on donations and the generosity of swimmers' families to fund its activities and is appealing for more money to help fund its hopes for 2012.
